J.R. began what would be his passion, when he picked up his first camera at the tender age of 9. He photographed his family and friends for fun. He landed his first paying assignment at the age of 15. He began photographing weddings while still in high school working for various portrait studios in San Antonio until he started his own business, jR Photography.

Currently, J.R. selectively photographs 20-25 weddings per year and is commissioned for hundreds of portraits each year. In his busy schedule, J.R. still finds time to continue his education by attending numerous seminars to keep current in the photography industry. J.R. is an active member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), the Texas Professional Photographers Association (TPPA), and has served on the board of the Professional Photographers of San Antonio (PPSA).

J.R. and his wife have 5 children and are active members of Community Bible Church in San Antonio. They volunteer as leaders to the Parents of Special Needs Children Support Group where they help guide other parents, through biblical principles, in all aspects of raising children with special needs. J.R. is a member of the Praise choir and volunteers as a teacher in the Kindergarten Sunday School class.
